David Zill, M.S., LPC, NCC

There are many benefits of counseling. Counseling helps us figure things out; it can help us achieve our goals, and it can help us mend or improve important relationships in our lives. It can help us find reasons to live and new ways to love ourselves, and it can help us learn to cope with what life has handed us or to grieve what has been taken from us. And overall, counseling can offer reassurance that things are going to be ok.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 15 years of experience in the behavioral health field. My clinical perspective is based on interpersonal theory, which means that I believe our satisfaction in life, moods, sense of who we are, and happiness are directly affected by our interactions with the important people in our lives.

My treatment approach is rooted in family systems theory (our behavior and how we respond to others is greatly influenced by our relationships within our family of origin), psychodynamic theory (by gaining a deeper understanding of ourselves through self-reflection and self-evaluation we can make better choices in our behavior), and interpersonal theory (our satisfaction in life, our sense of who we are, our moods, and happiness are directly affected by our interactions with the important people in our lives). In addition, I follow multicultural therapy practices (counseling that acknowledges how various factors, such as race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, gender, sexuality, and ability influence mental health).

With that in mind, I work with adults who have experienced trauma, depression, and anxiety and couples struggling with their relationship. I use a variety of methods depending on what works best for you, for example, talk therapy, books, journaling, games, and crafts.

Often the most difficult step to take is to set up an appointment with a counselor. The best thing I can share with you is that therapy does work! While therapy can be difficult at times, it can also be cathartic, enjoyable, and rewarding. I invite you to call or email me to set up an appointment.
